Discrimination?

To a large extent a majority population views homosexuality and same-sex lifestyles negatively and values them pejoratively. This disparaging basic position is not only regarding homosexual men and women but also people with different ethnic origins or other discriminated groups. It is the result of

- resentment and prejudice which has been encouraged for centuries,
- inexperience and ignorance,
- social distancing as well as
- taboos, silence (particularly for gay and lesbian identities)

Accordingly, discrimination should be defined as one person or a group of persons being treated less favourably than another on the grounds of his or her sexual orientation, ethnic origin, age, religion or handicap. Its effects result in a general quotidian conduct in which these persons are often

- socially stigmatized and excluded as well as legally disadvantaged and
   discriminated against;
- violently assaulted; their property deliberately destructed; their organisations,
   institutions and living-spaces attacked.
