Homosexuality is much more than just about sexuality. Your sexual orientation influences all aspects of life, social norms, interests, friends, hobbies etc. So lesbians, gays, and bisexuals have formed a large number of groups and initiatives all around the world. Getting to know more about these communities is important in order to give youth a clearer view of lesbian, gay and bisexual life and to be able to refer lesbian, gay and bisexual teenagers to social networks and activities.

In this chapter you will find some information about lesbian, gay and bisexual communities and "subcultures". We give an overview on why these communities started and what needs they serve. A lot of young people may have critical questions and comments about the existence of "separate" gay or lesbian communities. Here, you will find some suggestions on how to deal with those.
